Does mood affect what you choose to read?

Book recommendations are all around us -- friends and family, blogs, sites we signed up for like Bookbub, The Fussy Librarian, ads on Facebook, etc.

We make choices based on who made the recommendation (someone with similar reading tastes, someone we trust), the author (one of our favorites), or the cover and the blurb. Do we make our choices based on genre or are we open to anything that intrigues us? Whatever the case, we add the book to our e-reader and eventually get around to checking it out.

With some, we don't even finish reading the sample before we decide -- um, no. Others capture our attention and we can't put them down. Then there are the books that leave us with a I just don't know feeling and we move on to the next on the list.

Going back to the I just don't know books in a different frame of mind, we decide not to pass them by and are rewarded with wonderful reads.

But, what if we pass them by a second time? What are we missing? Do we fret and wish we hadn't deleted the sample, or do we accept our decision and move on, without regrets, knowing there are millions of books out there waiting for us.

What do you do? How do you make your choices?
